NIR DETECTABLE MASTERBATCH
DARK PLASTIC ARTICLES ARE FINALLY SORTABLE & RECYCLABLE
Black and dark plastics place the highest demands on the separation of plastics recycling.
The widely used NIR sensor technology evaluates the near-infrared spectrum reflected by the plastic article. Each type of plastic has a characteristic spectrum and can be identified, sorted and finally recycled.
So far, black and dark coloured plastics have had a major problem: the carbon used for darkening plastics absorbs a large part of the radiation in the visible and in the infrared wavelength range. Therefore, it has not been possible to obtain a sufficient signal from black and dark-coloured plastics so far, and consequently it was not possible to differentiate and sort them into plastic types.
SERVICE OFFER: We now offer, on request, a near-infrared inspection and certification of all masterbatches for customers. This saves time and money. Due to the current demand from various markets, this test is more and more desired for all colours. An existing end product or masterbatch can also be tested. If NIR detection is not possible, we have a sustainable solution on hand.

THE SOLUTION FOR THE DETECTION PROBLEM IN THE RECYCLING PROCESS
With the use of our NIR detectable masterbatch, black and dark coloured plastic articles can be properly sorted and recycled using NIR sensor technology.
RAW MATERIAL WITH STRONG BENEFITS FOR THE RECYCLING OF PLASTIC ARTICLES
- masterbatch for carbon-free black and dark coloured plastic products that can be recycled and reused
- makes plastic articles detectable on NIR detectors
- suitable for all processing methods (injection, blow moulding, compression, extrusion)
- no decrease of technical properties
- enables laser markable final articles
- suitable for food approved plastic products
- produced under ISO 9001, 14000, 22000, 13485

NEW COTREP-CERTIFIED PRODUCTS
In an effort to improve NIR sorting, we confirm the performance of our NIR detectable products with a certification by Cotrep.
Cotrep (Comité Technique pour le Recyclage des Emballages Plastiques - Technical Committee for the Recycling of Plastic Packaging) is an association comprising of Citeo, Elipso, Valorplast and SRT. Cotrep is a French institute that has developed a system to test and document NIR detectability. The test consists of comparing the NIR detectability of identical items – with and without the dark colouring. The test is made by both market leaders in NIR detection machinery production in Germany and France.
